Gregg Co. voters to decide on creating ESD in November

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Gregg County Commissioners this morning have called an election this November for voters in the county's southwestern areas to decide whether to create an emergency services district, or ESD #2.

The county's second ESD, if approved by voters, would use a five-cent tax rate to pay for fire and emergency medical services in Liberty City and surrounding areas, says Sabine Volunteer Fire Chief Richard Sisk.

"Overall, the support was shown by liberty city and the voters in that area," says Rick Faulkner, a Longview attorney involved in a petition earlier this summer in support of having the election.

No one spoke during a public hearing on the matter.
