Gregg County DA's Office wants bond raised on April 14 murder suspect

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - The Gregg County District Attorney's Office wants bond increased for the suspect in an April 14 shooting that killed a Longview man.

The suspect who was previously convicted of attempted murder and kidnapping -- was released on $175,000 bond last week.

The bond amount was pre-set by 124th District Judge Alfonso Charles in Carldwell's arrest warrant April 15. Carldwell was out April 16th.

This week, the Gregg County DA's office filed a motion -- asking Judge Charles to either increase Carldwell's bail -- or set conditions for his release. In its motion -- the DA's office says Carldwell spent 15 years in prison for a 1992 attempted murder conviction -- and  another two years in prison for attempting kidnapping in 2007 -- for which, he's forbidden from possessing a firearm.

A hearing has been scheduled for Thursday morning in the 124th District Court to consider the DA's motion, according to the Gregg County District Clerk's Office.
