Gregg County moves polling places away from two west Longview elementary schools

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - If you are a voter in west longview, your polling place has likely changed.

Gregg county commissioners have moved polling from two elementary schools because of security and traffic concerns.

If you've voted at spring hill elementary school in the past, you will now vote at Spring Hill First Baptist Church on Gilmer Road.

For those who've voted at Pine Tree Elementary School, that polling place has moved next door to Pine Tree I.S.D.'s Facility Services Building.

Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy says one school hired a security guard to escort voters to the polls and away from classrooms.

"So, we've looked at this for a while, and we think it would be in the best interest of the kids to move these polling places out of the elementary schools," Nealy says.

At Nealy's request, commissioners will expand early voting to the Liberty City Community Center to accommodate people who will vote in Sabine I.S.D. trustee elections, or a decision to create a new emergency services district in the county.

Early voting is set for the last two weeks of October at five Gregg County locations including the courthouse.
