Story : Harrison Co. Sheriff's release identity of drowning victim

UPDATE: HARRISON COUNTY (KYTX) - Harrison County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the family has been notified of the drowning victim that occurred on May 19, 2013. The victim is identified as 21-year-old Wildrick Lamon Jenkinsof Marshall.

FROM HARRISON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT: Harrison County 911 operators received a call for assistance at approximately 12:30 PM on May 19, 2013 regarding a missing occupant of a canoe on Caddo Lake.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens were notified and Harrison County Deputies were dispatched to the general area of the accident. The Deputies and Game Wardens were advised that 2 men had rented a canoe at nearby Johnson's Ranch, in Uncertain, Texas and were paddling down the river. The canoe apparently turned over, throwing the 2 occupants into the water. The surviving man attempted to find the other occupant and states he never saw him after the canoe capsized and that occupant then swam to the nearby shore.

Game Wardens from Bowie County assisted the Harrison County Game Wardens with specialized side-scan sonar equipment and located the body of the missing boater in approximately 11 feet of water near where the canoe capsized. It appears that neither occupant of the canoe was wearing the life jackets that were in the canoe.

The point of contact for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden in Harrison County is Darren Peeples at 903-930-3205. Further information may be obtained from him.
