HARRIS COUNTY (KHOU) – A Harris County Sheriff’s deputy who was fatally shot at a gas station Friday evening was a 10-year veteran.
The deputy was on duty in a full uniform while filling up his patrol car at a Chevron in northwest Harris County when he it appears he was shot from behind by a suspect, said Harris County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Officer Thomas Gilliland.
The gas station sits on a busy intersection at the corner of Telge and West Road in northwest Harris County near Cypress. A witness called 911 to alert the sheriff’s office that one of their deputies had been shot, Gilliland said.
The deputy died at the scene and the suspect fled the scene, Gilliland said. Sheriff’s officials believe the suspect is a dark-skinned male who’s about 5-feet 10-inches or 6-feet tall wearing a white t-shirt and red shorts. Officials believe he fled the scene in a red- or maroon-colored Ford pickup truck, possibly an extended Ford Ranger.
“Give yourself up,” Gilliland said, referring to the suspect.
There’s still an active scene at the gas station as the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, DPS and Harris County Constables continue their investigation and a motive behind the shooting. Gilliland said authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the gas station, but the video wasn’t clear.
Gilliland ask that anyone with any information into the shooting contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
