Health Alert: A new use for an old drug that reverses obesity and diabetes

(CBS) - Michigan researchers have discovered the drug amlexanox reverses obesity and diabetes. The drug has been used in the past to treat asthma in Japan and canker sores in the U.S. The tests were conducted on mice, so more study is needed to determine whether the drug will have the same affect on humans.



(CBS) - An international team of scientists has discovered two dozen new genes that trigger short-sightedness, known as myopia. Researchers say the findings could lead to better treatments or ways of preventing the condition. Myopia can lead to blindness or visual impairment.



(CBS) - Exercise can help caucasian men prevent prostate cancer. Researchers in North Carolina studied about 300 patients and found the white men in the study who exercised at least moderately were 53 percent less likely to have prostate cancer. There was no link between exercise and prostate cancer among black men.
