Health Alert: Half of Americans Take Prescription Drugs

(CBS) - The Centers for Disease Control releases its annual report on health and drug use. The CDC reports about half of all Americans reported taking one or more prescription drugs from 2007 to 2010.  In that same period, the number of adults using anti-depressants quadrupled. The CDC also says antibiotic prescriptions for people experiencing cold symptoms dropped 39 percent between 2009 to 2010.

(CBS) -  A new health warning for women who go through menopause early -- if menopause happens between the ages of 40 to 45, women have a 40% higher risk of heart failure. That's according to a new study in the Journal Menopause. Researchers in Sweden looked at more than 2,200 women for the study. They found the risk of heart failure increased even more for early menopausal women who smoked at any point in their lives.

(CBS) - College football players who suffered a concussion or have been playing for a long time have less volume in the part of their brain that's important for memory. That's according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Researchers also found the football players exhibited slower reaction time.
