(CBS) - More than half of all operations in the US are performed on patients 65 and older. In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers say they've found a way to predict which elderly patients are at risk for serious post-op complications. The study's authors looked at 275 elderly patients and assigned them a score based on their dementia, nutrition levels, and other factors. Researchers say that score helped predict which patients were likely to survive, endure a long hospital stay, or require nursing home care after surgery.

British researchers conducted tests on athletes during competitions and practices. They found skill levels were worse during competitive trials, when anxiety levels were high.
