SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) - As the temperature climbs, so does the risk of heat exhaustion.
On Friday, five students at Broadmoor Middle Lab complained of heat related issues during a Physical Education class outside of the school. The school called 911 emergency personnel to check out the students and parents were also notified. Three of the students were taken to LSU Hospital, one was taken to Highland Hospital and another was released to his/her parents.
Also on Friday, classes were canceled at Jack P. Timmons Elementary School in Shreveport after the electricity went out. Although power was expected to only take a couple of hours to restore, the concern of the heat prompted school officials to cancel classes. Victor Mainiero, Director of Communications and Marketing for Caddo Public Schools, says that parents were notified by a JCALL system.
