(CNN) - The wrong shoe may cramp more than just your style.
Although sucking it up and wearing uncomfortable heels may be worth it now, you're risking more than short term pain.
An article in the British newspaper "Daily Mail" says stilettos and towering heels may increase the risk of arthritis in women, later in life.
The study found that high heels can alter posture, and increase pressure on the foot, ankle and knee joints.
All of that can increase your risk of osteoarthritis.
Experts suggest women keep their heels below one inch, and opt for round-toed shoes with shock-absorbent soles.
