Hiway 80 Seeks Help

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - VOlunteers at Hiway 80 homeless shelter in Longview say that the shelter's supplies are getting low. Volunteers say they have averaged 220 people a night in January, doubling the normal average. They say with rain on the way, those numbers are expected to rise.

Shelter employees say that no one will be turned away if they come needing help, but they need more items to help the homeless.
Associate Director Rusty Fennell says these items will help with the bigger picture.

"if they can find a place to get a good nights sleep, get a good meal -and get a fresh start then that's what we are really here to do." - Rusty Fennell

The shelter says items most wanted are canned foods, blankets, jackets, and clothes.

If you have items to donate, you are asked to drop them off at the shelter.
