LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A convicted burglar wanted on parole violations was caught taking a television from a North Longview home by the homeowner early this afternoon, according to police.
It led to an hour-long chase in two counties involving police and K-9 officers and a helicopter before he was apprehended, Longview Police Officer Kristie Brian says. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview for non-life-threatening injuries after wrecking his truck following a vehicle chase covering at least six miles.
Brian says a man returned to his home on Paverstone Lane in northeast Longview at about 12:40 Wednesday afternoon when he saw a man exiting his home with a television. A confrontation ensued before the suspect jumped into his red 1999 GMC pickup and fled the scene, with the homeowner calling 9-1-1. Brian did not say whether the confrontation was verbal or physical.
Longview police, Hallsville K-9, Harrison County sheriff's deputies and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter were called in to find the suspect, who Brian says wrecked out his truck on an oil-topped road off Country Club Road in southwestern Harrison County. Officers found the suspect hiding in the woods at 1:45 this afternoon.
Once he is treated and released, the man will be taken to Gregg County Jail and charged burglary of a habitation, evading arrest with a vehicle and two parole warrants on past burglary and evading arrest convictions, Brian says.
