KAUAI (KYTX) - A 54-year-old Kauai fisherman faced off with a 230 pound tuna and won, but the fish went down fighting.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a distress call Friday morning from a fisherman clinging to the hull of his 14-foot fishing boat. The enormous Ahi capsized the boat and nearly drowned Anthony Wichman when the fishing line tangled around his legs and pulled him down into the sea.
He freed himself and called his wife from the hull of the overturned boat. She alerted the Coast Guard and Wichman was airlifted to safety.
When his friends arrived to retrieve his boat they discovered Wichman's catch was still attached to the line.
