JACKSONVILLE (KYTX) - Hundreds have signed up to honor an East Texas businessman and community league coach shot and killed.
Flowers, posters and written messages, all physical, fading reminders of Stacy Hunter.
"I'm proud of the man he was and his name speaks for itself," says Veronica Hunter, Stacy's sister.
She's working with Cindy Hollis to collect signatures to make Stacy's birthday, November 1st, a city-wide day to remember him.
"We're going all around with this. Online, we're running to people's house," says Cindy Hollis.
Stacy was shot and killed inside his club off of Highway 69 in Jacksonville October 20th.
Police charged his cousin, 24-year-old Jimmy Mosely with capital murder and attempted robbery in the shooting.
But the community deeply misses the coach, the petition has about 500 signatures so far.
"Lets me know I'm not the only one who thinks of him in a positive way and we have kids that have signed this petition," says Hollis.
Once Hollis gets enough signatures she'll bring the petition to city hall so it can be processed and sent to city council to be voted on.
"The effort and dedication he put into the kids, really not only the kids but the whole community. I think he deserves that," says Hunter.
A day to remember a man who touched hundreds of lives, and made them all family.
"He was family and it doesn't have anything to do with blood," says Hollis.
"He was my hero. He was more than a brother to me," says Hunter.
Hollis hopes to complete the petition in the next 3 months.
