"I told him 'stop, stop!'" - Eyewitness describes hit & run

Investigators continued their search Monday for the man or woman who ran over an injured motorcyclist Sunday night. 35-year-old Maxwell Kyle Hardin died from injuries sustained in the hit-and-run. His passenger and girlfriend, 36-year-old Donna Rene Miller, survived.

The wreck happened around 7:00pm Sunday on F.M. 726 just south of where it meets Flicker road.

Lakeisha Charles just happened to be outside Sunday night. She heard the crash and ran toward the road.

"I went out there to look and see what it was and I see that man laying out there on the ground," Charles said.

Charles saw Hardin but she did not notice Miller off to the side before she saw a truck coming toward her.

"It was putting. Sounded like it was running out of gas or something," Charles said. "And then it just ran over him. And he kind of slowed down I guess to look a little and then he just went on. I told him 'stop, stop!'"

After he'd been run over Hardin was still out in the middle of the road. Witnesses said they tried to revive him but he never could tell them what happened. Miller was about 20 feet away in a ditch. She had been carried there along with the bike when it ran off the road and she was yelling for help.

"I heard somebody screaming and I told my mom to call the ambulance," Charles said.

"The issue that we have now is that the vehicle did not stop," Trooper Jeanne Dark with the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Dark said the incident was tragic. But DPS isn't ready to point any fingers.

"We won't assume to know if the person knew that they had struck anything," Dark said. "Did they think it was an animal? There's lots of different circumstances."

Charles hopes the missing driver will do the right thing.

"I hope he comes and turns himself in," she said. "I don't know why he wouldn't stop but I hope he turns himself in."

Miller was treated and released Sunday night. Her family said she was alright, physically, on Monday.

Miller's family joined Hardin's family in pleading for the driver to come forward.

Investigators are looking for an older white pickup with a short cab and non-stock tires that seem to be a mis-match for the truck.
