Update: Thompson has been released from jail and is in the Gregg County Jail, charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.

His bond is set at $100,000.

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Police say Shaun Antonio Thompson, 26,  threatened police with a weapon before an officer opened fire on him, striking him at least once.

The shooting happened at the Penwood Apartments on Scenic Drive Monday night.

An officer was reportedly responding to a call around 8:45 p.m. when the armed man confronted the officer and was shot.

A mother who lives at Penwood Apartments said she arrived home from dinner to see the shooting.

"If something can happen right here when I pull in, what can happen right here when he plays?"

Thompson remains in the hospital at this time.

Longview police have referred all questions about the investigation to the Texas Rangers.
