Investigators Looking for Answers After Garage Apartment Fire Near Whitehouse

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) -- Nearly half a dozen East Texas fire departments responded to the scene of a house fire Monday night just outside Whitehouse. It happened around 6:40 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Jaime Drive off Rhones Quarter Road.  One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. Fire investigators on the scene tell CBS19 the garage with an apartment  above it caught fire shortly after a lawnmower was put away in the garage. The official cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Neighbors say they saw flames coming out of the garage and the heat even blew out some of the windows and a car in the garage was damaged. The family was home at the time.
