John Tyler teachers offering English classes for adults

TYLER (KYTX) - Teachers at John Tyler are helping parents learn English.

The program is now in full swing.  The adult students are divided into three levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced, depending on how much English they already know. Some don't speak the language at all.

They meet for their classes at 6:30 on Mondays and Thursdays.  Four teachers and even one high school student help these adults learn the language.

"You can see all over their face they're just so thankful for the opportunity to learn English and be able to speak the language of the society they live in, but also the fact that it's free," says John Tyler teacher Aubre Killman. She is one of the teachers helping teach these adults. She learned Spanish while living abroad and knows what it's like to have to learn a language quickly.

She says learning English will allow these parents to help their children in school, and be a part of their education.
