JUDSON/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Seven years after becoming fully operational, Judson Metro Volunteer Fire Department has added its sixth firefighting vehicle.
The department signed paperwork this morning on an $82,000 booster truck paid for with both local donations and a $78,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service, according to Judson Metro Board Secretary Julie Binnion. The truck will be used for all firefighting uses including house fires for the department, which serves about 5,000 residents in northern Gregg County.
Since becoming operational in 2006, Judson Metro Volunteer Fire Department has doubled in volunteers from 10 to 20 plus two reservists, and has tripled to six firefighting vehicles including two booster trucks. Binnion said the department is about to begin a fundraising campaign to replace a 1989 fire truck.
