Karson Kent Honored as ETBU's 2013-2014 Senior Girl Call-Out

MARSHALL (KYTX) – East Texas Baptist University's oldest, most honored tradition returned for its 67th year on Friday, April 11, naming the 2013-2014 Senior Girl Call-Out.

The ceremony was held on a gorgeous East Texas afternoon on the front lawn of Marshall Hall.

This year's Senior Girl Call-Out is Karson Kent of Mount Pleasant. Last year, Karson's older sister, Kallie Kent Philips was named the Senior Girl Call-Out.

Miss Kent is a Business Management major. Her parents are Kevin and Jill Kent. Karson, has three sisters, Kaitlyn, Kinsey, and Klaire, they are quadruplets and students at ETBU.

While at ETBU,  Miss Kent played tennis her freshman and sophomore years and was chosen Academic All Conference in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.  She was inducted into Alpha Chi and Sigma Beta Delta, chosen Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, and has been on the Dean's List with Honors every semester.

Karson enjoys playing tennis, traveling, watching movies, and drinking coffee with friends.  After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in the business field. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant. On Wednesday nights, she volunteers in the three and four year old class at Friendship Baptist Church of Marshall.

Miss Sallie Duncan, then Dean of Women initiated Senior Girl Call-Out in 1947. The script for the ceremony, which was written by former librarian Dr. Mary K. Armstrong, has remained the same for 67 years. Armstrong also wrote the arrangement for the ETBU school hymn.

The Senior Girl Call-Out ceremony is a simple, but beautiful ceremony honoring senior women who best reflect the values of the University. The one "called-out" is a young woman who is courteous, kind, loves scholarship, appreciates beauty, and shows evidence in her daily living of spiritual perception and reverence.

This year, 19 senior girls participated in the ceremony along with their "little sisters" who are underclassmen chosen by the seniors. From all the senior girls who choose to participate in the Call-Out, the ETBU faculty and staff elect one to honor as the Call-Out recipient.

Senior Girl Call-Out participants were: Andrea Aldrich of Allen, Julia Chance of Quitman, Brittany Conner of Kilgore, Taylor Davis of Bivins, Kayla Franklin of Princeton, Michelle Gallimore of Allen, Amanda Harmon of Frankston, Arissa Hatcher of Omaha, and Haden Hollis of Kingsport, Tenn.

The others are: Emily Jimerson of Plano, Brittany Jones of Mount Pleasant, Krystin Jurries of Burleson, Kinsey Kent of Mount Pleasant, Kaitlyn Kent of Mount Pleasant, Kalee Long of Forney, Miranda Pippin of Fort Worth, Taryn Reynolds of Henderson, and Amy Schlebach of Forney.
