Kaufman County theft in progress foiled by tip

Forney (KYTX) - Kaufman County Deputies responded to a call regarding a theft in progress in the 9500 block of Helms Trail, just outside of Forney. A caller reported to the 911 operator that an unknown individual was siphoning was appeared to be diesel fuel from trucks located in the parking lot of a nearby business. The caller advised that this was the same vehicle that was seen in the past when diesel was stolen out the trucks of the same business.

Deputies quickly apprehended the suspect in the process of siphoning diesel fuel from a truck parked on the back of the parking lot of the business. The suspect tried to cover his identity by covering the front and rear license plate with aluminum foil to prevent anyone from identifying the vehicle. After an inspection of the inside of the vehicle, deputies found a set of bolt cutters, cordless saw, cordless drill, and several other tools that could be used to commit the offense of theft.

Arrested without incident was Jeremy Scott Baker, 38, of Seagoville. Baker was transported to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center where he is charged with theft under $1,500 with two previous convictions and unlawful use of criminal instruments. Bond is set at $100,000.
