Kilgore bank robbery suspect now jailed in Gregg County

East Texas law officers searching for bank robbery suspect

UPDATE: The man accused of robbing the Bank Texas in Kilgore earlier this week was transported Friday to the Gregg County Jail where is being held without bond.

60-year-old Randall L. Wikert has been in the Wood County jail since his arrest Wednesday night in Hawkins.




(KYTX) - The Kilgore robbery suspect was taken into custody four hours after he was first spotted in Hawkins in Wood County Wednesday night.  Randall L. Wikert, 60, was arrested and taken to the Wood County Jail.  Wikert is a convicted murderer and he was wanted for the Tuesday robbery of a Bank Texas location in Kilgore.

According to Lt. Frazier with the Hawkins Police Department, the suspect was found at a Sonic in Hawkins around 10:15 p.m. Police say he was trying to get inside to eat and the employees would not allow him to get food. Police say he had a pocket knife when they arrested him.

Police say a search began around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday when a Hawkins officer spotted him near the Hawkins City Park.  The say when Wikert spotted the officer he ran away.

According to Kilgore Police, Wikert was on parole for a 1980 capital murder conviction. He was released from Huntsville in 2012 where he was serving a life sentence.

UPDATE: There has been a confirmed sighting of the Kilgore robbery suspect and Hawkins Police Department is hot on his trail. 

Lt. Frazier of the Hawkins Police Department has confirmed that there is an active search going on in a Hawkins park to locate Randall L. Wikert, who is accused of robbing a bank in Kilgore on Tuesday.

A Hawkins Police Officer says he saw the suspect in the city park on foot wearing blue jeans and a gray hoodie. When Wikert saw the police officer he took off on foot.

(KYTX) - The suspect has now been identified as Randall L. Wikert, 60 years of age, of Kilgore, Texas. An arrest warrant has been obtained for Mr. Wikert by the Kilgore Police Department for Robbery.

According to Kilgore Police, Wikert was on parole for a 1980 capital murder conviction. He was released from Huntsville in 2012 where he was serving a life sentence.

The Department is actively seeking Mr. Wikert and asking for assistance from the public. If you know of his whereabouts please contact the Kilgore Police Department.  Mr. Wikert is currently clean shaven, stands 6'4"tall and has no teeth.

The investigation is ongoing.



KILGORE TX (KYTX) - Local, state, and federal authorities are searching for a man suspected of robbing  Bank Texas located off I-20 at Hwy. 42 in Kilgore.

Police say the bank located at the Gateway Travel Plaza  was robbed by a man armed with a knife around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Roman Roberson, Public Information Officer with the Kilgore Police Department says upon police arrival, a teller reported a person described as a white male, thin, in his 50's wearing a light grey hoodie, dark grey toboggan type cap, one black glove and blue jeans entered the bank armed with a knife.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller and fled. Police searched the area for the suspect with the assistance of Texas DPS, Gregg County Sheriff's Office, Longview Police Department and a Texas DPS Helicopter. The suspect was not located. No one was injured during the robbery a white male in his mid 50's, slender build, wearing a gray goodie and armed with a knife. The suspect fled on foot into a wooded area near the store.
