KILGORE (KYTX) - Kilgore ISD has named Cara Cooke as the lone finalist for superintendent, according to a press release.
Cara Cooke is an East Texas native. She graduated from Neches High School in 1982, earned her Bachelor's in Education from University of Texas at Tyler in 1987, and then a Master's in Education from Stephen F. Austin University in 2002. This is Cara's 25th year in education which began in Palestine ISD. She later served at her alma mater, Neches ISD, as the Elementary Principal.
Opportunity took her and her husband to South Texas where she served five years as Assistant Superintendent at Industrial ISD which is currently a TEA Recognized District. During her time at Industrial, she assisted with initiatives that increased academic scores that allowed the district to receive the accolade of an Exemplary District during 2009 and 2010. She recently left Industrial to take some of the same initiatives to West Oso ISD in Corpus Christi as the Assistant Superintendent. Cara is very excited to return to East Texas and work with a great team of educators to provide academic success for all students. She believes that the needs of the students must be the compass that leads the way.
Cara Cooke has been married for 30 years to her husband Richard and they are the proud parents of 25 year old twins, Chad and Ashley. She and her husband will reside in Kilgore and look forward to taking an active part in the community.
The School board President Janet Marley says a vote will be held on March 18.
