Kilgore police: Man posing as animal control tried to take pet Thursday morning

KILGORE/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - On Thursday morning, 07-11-2013, Kilgore Police responded to the 800 block of Bean Street due to suspicious activity.

Upon arrival police met with a concerned citizen who reported they were approached at their residence by a white male subject wearing green khakis pants representing himself as an animal control officer. He asked to take possession of the citizen's dogs due to noise complaints and further claimed to have a warrant for them.

The citizen became suspicious and notified police. Before police arrived the subject left in what was described as a white unmarked truck with cages in the back.

Please beware of this incident and report any suspicious activity to the Kilgore Police Department at 903-983-1559. The City of Kilgore maintains one animal control officer and he operated clearly marked vehicle with proper identification.

The Kilgore Police will be investigating this incident which may be related to other similar occurrences in the surrounding East Texas area, including Longview.
