LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - With first or second place in more than six categories, Longview High School's academic UIL team has won the district championship for the second straight year.

The Lobos bettered Mesquite Horn by 30 points and Tyler's Robert E. Lee by 50 points. All other district academic UIL teams ended the 2013 campaign at least 140 points behind Longview.

To win the title, teams are awarded points based on individual and group efforts. Four groups – calculator applications, spelling & vocabulary, journalism and social studies – won first place district-wide. Eight team members brought home gold medals for their individual efforts.
