Lindale, TX (KYTX) -- Tonya Boyd and Mary Jo Palecek send their daughters to Velma Penney elementary and have been happy with procedures already in place.
"Anytime I come to the school to have lunch with the kids, we always have to present identification," Boyd said.
But after the Sandy Hook shooting last month, it immediately struck a chord.
"When something like that happens, it makes everybody think it could have been my child," Boyd said.
"I think the country reeled from this, I know I certainly did personally," Palecek added.
That's why they aren't surprised board members decided to approve increased security at 4 elementary campuses.
Lindale will be adding buzzers, intercoms, video cameras, and a component to doors to lock it and unlock it.
"This allows us to secure the front entry doors during the school day," Lindale ISD Superintendent Stan Surratt said.
The new features will be added in about 3 weeks.
