LISD superintendent search could start over, retiring trustee says

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - On May 20, Longview I.S.D. trustees selected Assistant Superintendent Horace Williams as the only finalist to become the district's next leader.

It seemed to end a six-month, $2,500 search for someone to replace Dr. James Wilcox, who says he's retiring in January.

State law requires trustees to wait 21 days after naming a superintendent finalist before offering a contract.

Trustee John Harrison is also retiring after 41 years on the board.

He says trustees were unanimous last month in hiring Williams, but new information about Williams has come to trustees' attention, and they're now split.

Harrison wouldn't go into details about the information, but he says he's leaving the decision to his replacement on the board, Ginia Northcutt.

Trustees are holding a regular monthly meeting at 7 tonight at the Education Support Center, 1301 E. Young Street. The agenda for tonight's meeting includes no discussion or vote on the superintendent's job.
