Armed robbery at Family Dollar under investigation

Another aggravated robbery at a Tyler Family Dollar store. Two men with guns entered the building demanding money, then ran.

Tyler Police are investigating an armed robbery at a Family Dollar Store. It happened on Thursday night at 8:29 p.m. at 4305 Troup Highway.

According to police, two black, male suspects entered the store with guns, facemask and demanded money from the store employees. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money from the store and ran.

Looking at surveillance video, one suspect ran up and down aisles, taking cell phones from customers, ensuring nobody could call 911.

The suspects are described to have thin builds. One is tall and the other is short.

Frequent shopper Charlie Hollie said this store has been robbed multiple times since he's lived in the neighborhood.

"I was really upset this time," Hollie said. "I was like, "oh my god," why won't they leave this store alone?"

Police confirmed this store was robbed once last year and again in January.

Tyler Police spokesperson said Andy Erbaugh said the location of the store, being secluded and in a wooded area, makes it an easy target.

"Criminals look for easy escape routes, whether it be highways, wooded areas," said Erbaugh. "You're not going to have a lot of witnesses just driving by. You're not going to have a lot of businesses with cameras."

If you saw anything, contact the Tyler Police Department or call Tyler Smith County Crime Stoppers.
