Trail of stolen items led to suspects

JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS - Jacksonville police officers arrested three people they say are responsible for a string of recent burglaries in the area.

Police responded to a burglary report on Nov. 1, in which someone saw two men dragging an item across Austin Street into an alley behind Dairy Queen. The officers spotted the suspects dragging a toy capsule vending machine east in the alley and gave chase. They caught one under a home on Nacodgoches Street.

Officers tracked down items that fell out of the toy capsule vending machine back to its original location at Los Regios Restaurant on 517 East Rusk, and found a window they believe the suspects broke to gain access into the building.

Jacksonville Police Department Detectives executed a search warrant at the home hours later and recovered stolen items from other burglaries as well as items related to the burglary on Wednesday morning.

Officers also found a small indoor marijuana grow in one of the suspects' bedroom closet.

According to police, people inside the home tried to destroy evidence of the marijuana grow but detectives found enough evidence to establish that the indoor grow had been disassembled recently, before officers obtained and executed the search warrant.

Two people were arrested at the scene, a juvenile and 18-year-old Andre Dylan Helm.

Detectives are currently working on several more arrest warrants for the burglary charge that will include other suspects.

An investigation is ongoing and police expect additional charges.
