3 men sentenced in ETX gas pump skimmer cases

TYLER - Three men were sentenced and one awaits sentencing on Thursday in two separate gas pump skimmer cases that originated in Smith and Gregg counties earlier in 2017.

In the first case, Dennys Miguel Arias Gonzalez and Tomas Falcon Casanova were indicted in June 2017 for violations related to their possession of skimmers and stolen account information while traveling through Smith County.

Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the charges in September and was sentenced to 11 months in jail. Casanova also pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.

In the second case, Beniurkis Hernandez Rodriguez and Tamara Valle were indicted in June 2017 for violations related to their use and possession of skimmers and stolen credit and debit card information found while traveling to a gas station in Longview.

Rodriguez and Valle pleaded guilty to the charges in September 2017 and were both sentenced to 10 months in prison.

“These devices victimize individual cardholders as well as the issuing financial institutions,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston. “The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas will continue to partner with federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat this threat.”

Pending their release from prison, Rodriguez and Valle are required to surrender to immigration officials for deportation proceedings.
