AAA offering free tows for tipsy drivers on July 4th

AAA is encouraging drivers not to drink and drive on July 4th by offering a free tow service that could prevented the crash that nearly took Patti Foster's life in 2002.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) is teaming with local towing companies across Texas to provide free tow service on July 4 for drivers who feel they have had too much to drink.

Patti Foster, who nearly lost her life after a drunk driver slammed into the back of the car she was riding in, says the service could save lives.

“Cheers to AAA,” she said.

Her friend Heather did not survive the crash but Foster said that she hopes her story will make others think twice before drinking and driving.

“We can make a difference and choose to make a difference now,” she said.

According to Daniel Armbruster, a spokesperson for AAA, the service will be available from 6 P.M. Tuesday to 6 A.M Wednesday as a way to encourage those who have had too much to drink to stay off the road.

He said the company will cover the costs for the first 10 miles and after that will vary depending on the tow company being used.
