Abortion demonstrators line streets in Tyler

Abortion demonstrators line a busy Tyler street on Sunday.

TYLER - Pro-life and pro-choice demonstrators gathered on the south loop in Tyler this afternoon with signs for passing drivers.

Those signs displaying opposing positions on one hot button issue: abortion.

Demonstrators were passionate but peaceful.

Supporters of the national pro-life group LifeChain gathered along the loop as part of the group's nationwide hour of prayer to end abortion.

Pro-choice advocates countered by forming a line of signs on the opposite side of the street.

Each side, heartfelt and emotional about their positions on the issue.

“We are at a crossroads in our country,” LifeChain supporter Sandra Herring said.

Herring and the other LifeChain supporters who gathered today, standing together in prayer is what matters.

“And I think that prayer is the only way to stop the killing of unborn babies,” Herring said.

Which is why she and other LifeChain supporters across the country lined the streets today in solidarity against abortion.

On the other side of the road, an equally passionate group.

Smaller in number, but there to say to passing drivers, that it’s okay to be pro-choice.

“Because Tyler is by and large very conservative and sometimes it can be really discouraging to think that you are alone in a sea of that,” pro-choice supporter Landis Anderson said.

At odds on an issue, but not with each other.

“I'm proud that we were able to get this amount of people,” Anderson said. “I'm proud that there are people that feel this strongly about something so close to my heart.”

Lots of people could be heard driving by honking their horns today, something that delighted both sides of the street today.

At the end of the day, it’s about drawing attention to issues that matter most to them.
