All Saints Episcopal School shines brighter than ever before as the Flame of Excellence award winners gathered for the school’s 40th anniversary celebration, Founders’ Day Tuesday night.
For the last 25 years, Founders’ Day has been a celebration of those who have generously contributed their time and effort to making All Saints the success that it is today. Traditionally, a Flame of Excellence award winner is someone whose “vision of life” embodies the school’s guiding principles of both reason and faith, and whose actions “exemplify a passion for excellence.”
Since the school’s opening in 1976, All Saints has awarded more than 20 men and women with this prestigious award, many of whom were in attendance on this special evening. This year, in honor of the school’s 40th anniversary, all of these award winners received a special tribute for their dedication to the school.
Upon arrival, attendees enjoyed live music, dinner, and a celebrity speaker.
Ron Hall, renowned author and subject of upcoming major motion picture "Same Kind of Different as Me" was the celebrity keynote speaker. The New York Times best seller tells the story of how Ron befriended a homeless man, Denver, and through their relationship, was changed for the better.
This story has inspired millions to open their hearts and minds to something greater. Most recently, Hall’s story has encouraged All Saints to press forward with a new service learning curriculum. Hall's visit will be a symbol of All Saints' commitment to making a difference in the community, similar to the way Hall did in his own life.
“I hope our Founders’ Day this year is an opportunity to celebrate the tradition of excellence we’ve had… and also to look to the future. With Ron Hall as our keynote speaker, he’ll be inspiring our future leaders,” All Saints Head of School Mike Cobb says.
The proceeds of the event go to the school’s financial aid program for deserving families and students. The 2016 Founders’ Day is co-chaired by Peggy Smith, Renna Embry, and Claire Cozad.
