Assistant Chief Steve Sharron recognized for 30 years of service

TYLER - Tyler City Council recognized Assistant Chief Steve Sharron for 30 years of service.  Sharron began his career with the Tyler Police Department in 1986 as a patrol officer and rose up the ranks to Assistant Chief in 2001.

In 1991, he was nominated as Officer of the Year by the department employees.  Four years later, he was part of the Bike Unit that was selected as the Unit of the Year for the Police Department.  In 1997, Sharron was named Supervisor of the Year. He's also received the Police Commendation award for his role in responding to the courthouse shooting in 2005.  That was his third as he was also awarded the Police Commendation in 2002 and 2003.

Following the shooting death of Constable Dale Geddie in June of 2006, Sharron took immediate and decisive action in coordinating the efforts of all the officers on the scene.  Tyler Police awarded him with a Certificate of Merit for his outstanding and excellent supervision on that tragic day.

Sharron holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a Master Peace Officer Certificate.

“Assistant Chief Sharron exemplifies the City’s Called to SERVE spirit and is an asset to the department,” stated Police Chief Jimmy Toler.
