"Barre Crawl" set to raise money for Harvey relief

Barre Crawl

TYLER - Barre studios and gyms in Tyler are partnering up for Hurricane Harvey relief in a "barre crawl" starting on Monday.

Facilities include Pure Barre Tyler, Artistic Dance Concepts, Premier Fitness, 360 Fitness and Studio B Pilates+Barre. Classes require a $20 donation. All proceeds will go to PATH in Tyler, and they will donate the money to relief efforts where they see fit.

Owner of Studio B Pilates+Barre Sarah Burton came up with the idea after her brother lost everything in the hurricane.

"Besides praying and sending supplies, there was nothing else I could do, or so I thought," she said. "I could teach for a good cause."

Burton reached out to other instructors in the area and came up with the idea.

360 Fitness instructor Kristi Franks said it's easy to forget about those in need nearly a month after disaster strikes. She said the barre crawl is a great way to keep the thought alive, and continue to bring relief to those in Houston.

"Fitness is something that kind of brings people together," Franks said. "We had people in our classes that were evacuees from Houston, and it's so nice getting to connect with them in this way."

Premier Fitness will have the first class on Sept. 24 at 2:00 p.m.

360 Fitness will hold community classes on Sept. 25 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Studio B Pilates+Barre has a class on Sept. 26 at 9:00 a.m.

Artistic Dance Concepts has classes on Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m.

The last class is on Sept. 28 at Pure Barre Tyler at 2:00 p.m.
