Blood bank levels low after Harvey

Blood bank levels low

TYLER, TX - East Texas blood banks are working to carry the load for the blood banks in the south.

Carter BloodCare said blood donations are normally low in August and September but due to Harvey, they are even lower.

One of the reasons is due to mass evacuations. Those evacuated from Houston and other cities are unable or not donating blood.

Another reason is due to some of the southern blood centers not being open.

Carter BloodCare is working to fill the need in East Texas as well as in Harvey-affected areas.

Blood donations are especially needed in the upcoming weeks and months to help boost the blood bank levels up to normal. Carter BloodCare in East Texas is expecting to be helping the southern blood banks for a very long time.
