Carthage football player revived on field after collapse

A Carthage football player is hospitalized after going into cardiac arrest on the field during half time.

After collapsing on the field during a football game, one East Texas mom is hoping her son gets a chance to meet the people who saved his life.

Letquittequa Jernigan's 14-year-old son Jasabira went into sudden cardiac arrest right as the Carthage football team was exiting the field for half time .

"My baby was laying there lifeless and there was nothing I could do," Jernigan said.

Coaches from both sidelines performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

After not breathing for three minutes, paramedics were able to get his heart beating again.

Waking up at LSU Health Hospital, Jasabira's mother said the first thing he wanted to do was say thank you to those who helped save his life.

"Once he was able to sit up and speak with me he was like momma i want to meet the people that saved my life," Jernigan said.

Coaches from Carthage have visited Jasabira in the hospital and promise that he will always be a part of the team, even if he isn't on the field.
