CBS 19's Tristan Hardy reviews: Don Giovanni's Pizzera

Self proclaimed "Pizza connoisseur", Tristan Hardy, celebrates national pepperoni pizza day.

WHITE OAK - When it come to making a pizza, it's not just slapping dough on the table and sprinkling cheeses. To professionals like Carlo Giovanni, making pizza is a lost art, and Giovanni is considered to be a 'pizza polymath'. Making New York style pizzas is his specialty, it was a skill that's been passed down from his grandfather. Thus, making him a third generation pizza maker. 

"We've been doing it that long, I've been making pizzas since I was 13," Giovanni said. 

Don Giovanni's Pizzeria is small business located in White Oak, across the street from the high school. Everything is made from scratch there, nothing from a can or anything of that nature. That's what makes his family business one of a kind. They even use a stone oven to heat their food. 

Giovanni said a New York Style pizza should be baked correctly. The customer shouldn't see any 'yellow' on the crust. It should be well-baked and nothing burned. The cheese should stretch. Sauces on a pizza shouldn't be too thick or too thin. Plus, toppings should compliment the pizza as a whole. 

CBS 19's Tristan rates Don Giovanni's pepperoni pizza, 85 out of 100. 

"It's a solid work of art," Hardy said. "The crust has a nice light crunch with every bite."

Comments:_Don Giovanni’s pepperoni pizza made by Carlo Giovanni is a solid work of art. The crust has a nice light crunch with every bite. You can definitely taste the various cheeses. While it’s hot, the cheese stretches, yet it’s still consistent and gooey. The sauce provides a rich flavor, nothing complicated, it’s simplicity makes it enjoyable. A slice itself can hold its own. It doesn’t flop, pizza like that is lazy. Carlo can make a quick pizza and it’s cooked like a professional. The pizza itself isn’t greasy and it’s better as a cold snack after work. I’d recommend Don Giovanni’s to friends and family.
