TYLER - CBS19 is partnering with the Salvation Army so East Texas families in need will have a Merry Christmas this season.
The goal? Raise $375,000 during the holiday season to help fund the various programs offered by The Salvation Army throughout the year.
As of Dec. 6, 2017, the organization has been able to raise 27 percent of the year's goal due to many generous donations, however, there are just 16 days left to raise money and there is still a long way to go.
"The need has never been greater, but I have confidence that the residents of East Texas and Smith County will rally and make it happen!," said Captain Robert Parker of the Tyler Corps.
In 2016, The Salvation Army was able to serve 233,665 meals, give away 3,976 bags of groceries, provide 19,00 vouchers for clothing and furniture and offer 3,541 people counseling and case management to help find a possible solution to their situations.
The 2017 Kettle Season launched on Nov. 10, and volunteers, including CBS19 staff, will ring the bells alongside the iconic red kettle at more than 37 Smith County locations this year.
