City of Hawkins in court over controversial sign

A Trial began Monday afternoon that will ultimately decide the fate of the Jesus sign in Hawkins.

Combing through several years of deeds and records in court today, the city of Hawkins is hoping to obtain a clear title where the controversial welcome sign currently sits.
To avoid potential legal battles, the city is suing the Jesus Christ Open Alter Church, a company that purchased the tract of land from a funeral home last year.
The city claims that the funeral never had title to sell to the church.
According to city officials, the city will take the down the sign if it is determined they are the rightful owners of the property.
