Day of the Dead exhibition at the Michelson Museum of Art

The exhibition at the Michelson Museum features a traditional Mexican altar.

MARSHALL - A Marshall museum is showcasing Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead celebration.

The Michelson Museum of Art is exhibiting a Mexican altar for the museum namesake Leo Michelson. Curators say the altar is used to celebrate a person's life.

Families throughout North and South America place the altars in their homes. Designed to honor the person’s life and attract their soul.

"We lay out food, mementos and dress the altar up so their soul will be attracted to visit," Museum volunteer Audrey Lozano says. "This is our culture."

On November 2nd, Day of the Dead carnivals will be held to celebrate the holiday. People wear traditional makeup and clothes for the event.

The exhibit ends on November 2nd and admission is free. The museum invites the public to learn more about the culture.
