Driver, child killed in Rusk County crash identified

RUSK COUNTY - DPS released the identities of the adult and child killed in Tuesday morning's wreck on Highway 64 in Rusk County.

Cassidy Massey, 21, and Ryder Frizzell, 5, were both killed after Massey lost control of the pickup while trying to pass another vehicle attempting to make a left turn off Highway 64 onto County Road 1117.

The infant was flown to a Shreveport hospital, not Dallas, as stated in an earlier story. No word on his/her condition.

The two-vehicle wreck claimed both lives early Tuesday morning on Highway 64 just south of the Smith County line.

According to a preliminary crash investigation, around 7:30 a.m. a pickup traveling westbound on Highway 64 was waiting to make a left turn onto County Road 4117.

A second pickup traveling in the same direction came upon the first, attempted to pass it, but lost control. The second pickup swerved into the eastbound lane, then over-corrected into the path of a third pickup traveling eastbound on Highway 64.

The third pickup struck the second pickup in the driver's side doors, killing the driver of the second pickup and a young child passenger.

An infant in the second pickup was transported to a Dallas area hospital with unknown injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
