East Texas Firefighters sacrificing Thanksgiving for others

The life of a firefighter does not stop for Thanksgiving. Our local heroes are on call 24 hours a day in case of any emergency -- to ensure our safety.

LONGVIEW - As the turkey is cut, East Texas Firefighters are on call for emergencies. Firefighters are giving up their holiday for others.

Over at Longview Fire Station Six, they are preparing their own Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, dressing, green beans, and other foods will hit the station table.

One hero says there is no other place he would want to be at this holiday. "These are my brothers," Longview Firefighter James Cooper says. "Even though I am away from my family, I enjoy today with my station family.

People donated deserts to the station. "It's good to know people care about us," Longview Firefighter Samuel Froh says. "I can't wait to get a piece of this pie."

These heroes work 24 hours straight, every third day. That puts a lot of stress on them, but they say the brotherhood and community support helps.
