East Texas Veterans adding Memorial Wall to Teague Park

ETX veterans are building a Vietnam memorial wall in Longview.

LONGVIEW - Some East Texas veterans are keeping fallen soldiers spirits alive with the construction of a new memorial wall in Longview. The memorial remembers all those that lost their lives in the Vietnam War.

For two years now East Texas vets have been working hard to build a sanctuary in Teague Park, to remember those lost in all us wars. Right now they're building a miniature version of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that will feature the names of every American lost in battle. It will look just like the one in Washington D.C.

"Personally I've got several guys on there, one of them was my high school buddy, so putting this wall up I hope will bring closure for me," Vietnam Veteran Billy Clay said. "I hope will bring closure for me, or at least try anyway, the rest but at least it will give people a chance to come up and pay tribute."

Gail Jurkowski is an Air Force Veteran who toured in Vietnam. She has traveled to memorials across the country, looking for ways to style the park.

"Nobody else can have one within 100 miles, so that makes it extra special so as we grow and expand, we can have different people come in here," Jurkowski said. "Different parades such as the Fourth of July and as well as student field trips."

Everything in the park has been paid for except for the memorial wall panels, which total more than $100,000. Organizers say they need the public's help.

If you would like to donate you can send money to the Veterans Recognition Foundation at P.O. Box 1365 Longview, TX 75606, or donate online here

They are also offering the public to have a Tribute brick installed on the Tribute Wall. There is no limit on the number of Tribute bricks you may order, the costs is $100 per brick. Organizers say it is a great way to honor the veterans in your family.
