The Salvation Army's Center of Hope shelter will host an open house on May 8th for donors to celebrate the completion of their "Adopt-A-Room" refurnishing project.

Fundraising for the project began in 2015, receiving donations from over 30 individuals, families, local businesses and churches.

Staff were able to raise $200,000 to replace older wooden furniture with more sturdy, updated pieces.

Salvation Army Grants and Development Coordinator Giny Reinhardt said it was a much needed improvement.

"The furniture that was in the rooms previously was installed in 2003 and it was wooden furniture. You can imagine in a shelter it gets pretty heavy use, and when we had part of the new furniture in and part of the old furniture it was just night and day," Reinhardt said.

The project was gradual, completing five rooms at a time. All 45 rooms were finished this spring.
