CANTON - “He was using a hose, a black hose that was coiled up to make his hot water..he had no heat, he had a little baby cortez heater on the floor, that wasn’t even capable of keeping the trailer warm, there was holes in the side of it, there was insulation that was made out of plastic bags just completely unfit to live in.”
That's how Lee Garber, owner of Absolute RV Repair in Canton, described T.J. Junell's RV after being called out for a repair. Lee told CBS19 that Junell asked for the repair because all he wanted was to be able to cook some cornbread.
These pictures tell some of the tale of Junell's living conditions.
After deeming it unrepairable, Lee and A Great Outdoor RV Center owner, Don Bloom, knew there was more that needed to be done for this Vietnam veteran. The duo, along with help from their East Texas community, surprised Junell Wed. morning with a new and fully-equipped RV.
Don and Lee told T.J. that Don's wife had made cornbread for him to pick up, and in addition to the cornbread, T.J. was given his big surprise.
“This is way above what I was ever expecting, and I appreciate people," Junell said.
Thank you for your service, T.J., and enjoy your well-deserved surprise.
A YouCaring page has been established for the veteran here.
