The violent clashes in Charlottesville sparked reaction from faith and community leaders around East Texas on Sunday.
David Montavo with Christ Church Justice Ministry said that he was jarred by the hate filled protests but not surprised.
“We’ve been seeing these kinds of things build up since Missouri,” he said.
According to Montavo, communities must come together to recognize that a problem exists and work together to fix it.
Something Orenthia Mason, Pastor of St. James CME Church in Tyler, agrees with.
“Until we learn to love one another, respect one another, we are going to see this kind of behavior,” she said.
