Fireworks stands compete for business ahead of July 4th holiday

Union Fireworks is just one of many fireworks stands around Smith County competing for business as the 4th of July holiday approaches.

When Brian Manley and his wife opened Union Fireworks in 1999, he said it all started as fun idea.

"It's be a lot of fun. It's a family business," Manley said.

Learning how the business works and keeping an edge on his competitors, he said it all comes down to knowing your customer.

"If you do good business, people come back," Manley said.

In addition to acquiring unique items not sold at other stands, he says location also plays an important role.

""We try to get as close to the city limits and be close to Tyler," Manley said.

While not disclosing just how much money the stand takes in each year, he said that with the good weather planned for this weekend, they should do well.
