Gang violence survivor hopes DPS study will heighten awareness

A new study released by the Department of Public found high concentrations of gang activity in Smith and Gregg County.

In their latest statewide assessment, the Department of Public Safety found high concentrations of gang activity in Smith County and Gregg County.

A cause of concern for gang violence survivor Jarvin Dorsey.

In May 2000, Dorsey was at a graduation party when he got caught in gang member crossfire during a drive by shooting.

However, Dorsey has not let the tragic event define his life.

“I’ve worked at Goodwill for 9 years and I am studying criminal justice at TJC,” Dorsey said.
