Highway 80 Rescue Mission prepared up to a thousand meals for Thanksgiving

Homeless shelter preparing Thanksgiving

LONGVIEW - All of those moments of being up early in the morning, cooking in front of a hot stove and being the last volunteer to leave is paid off for Zach Robertson.

"Makes me feel blessed that I can contribute and help out people in need," Robertson said.

Robertson role at the shelter is help run the kitchen and prepare meals. His list of activities consisted of cooking 100 turkeys, fixing 50 pans of dressing and baking 120 pies.

"We did like 250 pounds of onions for the dressing alone!" Robertson said. "Had the whole place crying."

However, that didn't bother Robertson because giving is what the season is about. Robertson said having the ability to meet other people's needs is the best part of the holiday.

Highway 80 is expected to serve up to a thousand meals and feed hundred of East Texans.
